AI Radar

Purpose

The AI Radar informs employees about Knauf's strategic AI focus topics. It enables employees to understand which AI technologies and developments are on Knauf's radar and how they relate to our business context.

What is the AI Radar?

The AI Radar is a curated view of relevant AI-related signals (market trends) at Knauf. It reflects collective thinking across the organization on AI developments that matter to Knauf.

Each signal is assigned to a status to provide additional orientation:

  • Adopt: Ready for implementation or already implemented at Knauf
  • Trial: Pilot projects are ongoing or planned to start soon to test feasibility and value
  • Assess: Under evaluation to better understand relevance, impact, or maturity
  • Hold: Currently not recommended for further exploration due to missing maturity, unclear value, or unfavorable conditions

The Four Strategic Clusters

Incremental Improvement

AI is used selectively to enhance existing processes and operations. Signals in this cluster focus on efficiency gains, quality improvements, or better decision support without changing fundamental business models.

AI Leadership

AI becomes a core capability across functions. This cluster highlights signals that enable differentiation, smarter value chains, and advanced automation within a stable external environment.

Tech Tailwinds

External technology, energy, or regulatory developments significantly influence the industry context, while AI adoption remains incremental. Signals here relate to opportunities or risks driven primarily by changes outside Knauf's direct control.

Structural Reinvention

High AI capability coincides with major external disruptions. Signals in this cluster indicate potential long-term structural shifts affecting business models, value chains, or product portfolios.

How the AI Radar Is Maintained?

A dedicated AI Acceleration Forum, steered by the Center of Excellence for AI (CAI), is responsible for maintaining the AI Radar.

  • Functional and technical representatives contribute signals based on research, market observations, and internal insights.
  • Signals are discussed and evaluated in a regular cross-functional exchange.
  • The AI Radar is continuously updated to reflect new insights, emerging developments, and shifts in strategic relevance.
